Incidentally:
New Federal Agency charged with overseeing $600 trillion derivative market? In other government-related legal news, Gary Barnett, the New York–based head of the derivatives and structured finance department at Linklaters, is leaving the firm to run the swaps unit of the new federal agency charged with overseeing the $600 trillion derivatives market, the agency announced Monday.
Barnett's official title will be director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight. He will begin work in September, a commission spokesman said.
Barnett, who specializes in the global swaps market, joined Linklaters in 2004. Prior to that, he served as cohead of Shearman & Sterling's securitization and derivatives practice.
Maybe Gary Barnett, director of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s Division of Swap Dealer and Intermediary Oversight, is responsible for the commodity escalation.
