Tribute to Edwin Jim Betts--A Great American

Few of us have the honor of knowing such a great American as Jim Betts.

To me, Jim was a proud father, a loving husband, a man that recognized no human limits, and was truly the example of a Great American.

Maybe much of this could be said about a lot of people, but Jim earned his reputation the hard way.  He turned the hardship of being a POW in Oflag64, a German Prison Camp as "a guest of the Germans" and a 400 mile hike across Poland in the middle of winter, into a positive to live by with a recognition of what is important in life on earth.

This recognition is best said by Jim, himself:
"From my wartime experience I have learned quite a bit.  What a great country we live in and all the peace and freedom we enjoy.  The good Lord was with me every step of the way and for that I am most grateful.  In reminiscing I am reminded of one of my favorite hymns.  'There is a God.  He is alive.  In Him we live and we survive.'  How true."
